Stewardship is not about
the needs of your parish
or the diocese,
but about your need to give.

As with all financial decisions,  we encourage you to consult with your own attorney or financial advisor.
If you are considering a gift to the Church, we encourage you to let us know so that we can ensure your gift is used according to your directions. There is no charge for our consultations and each consultation is held in the strictest confidence.

Catholic Community Foundation

Catholic Community Foundation (CCF) is the Foundation of the Diocese. Its mission is to support financially the spiritual, educational and social needs of the Catholic community. CCF officially became the Foundation of the Diocese of New Ulm when Bishop John C. Nienstedt entered into a partnership with CCF in the summer of 2007. In that short time span, parishes and individuals within the Diocese of New Ulm have entrusted CCF with over $1,000,000 in endowments, annuities and agency funds. CCF manages institutional funds for over 15 parishes, schools and cemeteries. See below for ways to give to our Diocese through CCF.

Endowments (established by individuals or families) - Any individual or family can establish an endowment. A permanent endowment perpetually protects the principal of your gift and insures that the annual distributions are made in you or your families’ name to the charity of your choice.

Endowments (established by institutions ) - Prudent institutions set up endowments to ensure the financial future of the institution. A permanent endowment also protects the institution’s investment from any litigation. All endowments protect the principal, strive to maintain ongoing growth of the fund, and make annual distributions as stipulated.

Charitable Gift Annuities - If you like the idea of receiving guaranteed fixed income payment for the rest of you life, the charitable gift annuity may be right for you. Simply make a gift of $10,000 or more to CCF naming the charity to ultimately benefit from your gift (such as your parish, school or the diocese) after your lifetime. In return you will receive a guaranteed payment for the rest of your life that substantially exceeds Certificate of Deposit rates and a tax benefit both from the gift and when receiving your annual disbursements.

Charitable Remainder Trusts - Designed for individuals with highly appreciated assets like farm land or stock, Charitable Remainder Trusts (CRTs) can provide some great opportunities. The CRT offers donors extra tax advantages while allowing the donor to set the life income rate they would like to receive (generally 5% to 7%). The donor names the charity to benefit ultimately from their gift after their lifetime. There are many variations of these trusts, and the CCF representative will be happy to walk you through various alternatives. CCF also offers the expertise of attorneys who work with these every day to insure competent investment advice.

Donor Advised Funds - This fund type begins with a gift of $5,000 or more in cash, stock, bonds, or land to CCF. You choose the name for your fund and enjoy the tax benefits associated with your charitable gift in the tax year you gift it. Then, over time you give gifts from this fund to your favorite charities according to your time frame. Its like having your own private family foundation without the costs. Over time you may also add to the fund and receive additional tax benefits each time you deposit money into the fund. All the while the fund exists it receives CCF’s top quality money management expertise.

Wills and Bequests - We encourage you to remember your parish, school or the diocese with a bequest gift in your Will or Estate Plan. There are two ways that you can do that.

  • Direct Bequests: A gift in your will can be directed to your parish, school or the diocese. To accomplish this you simply bequeath a specific sum of money or a percentage of your estate or the balance remaining after the bequests are made to your heirs. You may direct the beneficiary as to how you would like the money used.

  • Indirect Bequests: You may wish to gift Catholic Community Foundation an amount to establish an endowment fund in your name. At that time you would also specify the intent of this fund and how you would like the money to be used. This permanent endowment would perpetually protect the principal and annual distributions from the fund would be made to your parish, school or the diocese as you intended. What a wonderful way to leave a legacy in your or your family’s name.

Life Insurance - Often the need for the policy that was established long ago no longer exists. Life insurance policies make excellent charitable gifts and can reduce the tax burdens of your heirs.

IRA Rollovers - This can be an excellent charitable gift choice because it will save your heirs consider tax on the capital gains of the IRA.

Outright Gifts - The Diocese of New Ulm business office is set up to handle outright gifts of cash, stocks, bonds or land. We welcome the opportunity to discuss this type of gift with you and your intent for its use within the Church. Whether it be a gift to the parish, school, or diocese, your gift will be handled with care, dignity and professionalism.
