Easter Vigil in St. Peter

Easter Vigil in St. Peter

Fr. Todd Petersen, pastor at the Church of St. Peter in St. Peter and the Church of St. Paul in Nicollet, spreads chrism on Brianna Sheehy’s forehead as he administers the Sacrament of Confirmation April 4 at the Easter Vigil liturgy at St. Peter’s. Pictured with their hands on Sheehy’s shoulder are Bruce and Cathy Leonard, her godparents and sponsors. To the right of Fr. Petersen is Deacon Steve Spilman. Each year, thousands enter the Church throughout the world at the Easter Vigil through the sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, and the Holy Eucharist), including in the Diocese of New Ulm. At St. Peter’s, five catechumens (including Sheehy) received these sacraments. In addition, three candidates (persons validly baptized in a Christian denomination) were confirmed and received the Eucharist, one individual baptized in the Catholic Church received these two sacraments, and one person received first Holy Communion.
