Catechetical Sunday is September 17. The theme for this year is "Living as Missionary Disciples." Check out the USCCB's webpage for materials and more information.
The dates and locations have been set for this academic year's Cor Jesu events! They are as follows:
September 22 - Cathedral, New Ulm
November 4 - St. Mary, Arlington
December 10 - St. Michael, Milroy
February 10 - St. Clotilde, Green Valley
March 17 - St. Andrew, Granite Falls
June 1 - Cathedral, New Ulm (w/ Bishop LeVoir and the Totus Tuus team!)
What is Cor Jesu...and why? Cor Jesu is essentially adoration. The presider starts exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, a reading from Scripture, a short reflection on said reading, and then intermittent periods of silence and music fill the rest of the time while Confessions are offered. All of this in a candle-lit setting (so exquisitely prepared by members of the Diocesan Youth Council). Afterwards, everyone gathers for refreshments, conversation, and games. For those who have hosted retreats or brought youth to various youth ministry events where adoration is available, you'll know that when asked what their favorite part of the event was, the answer is almost always "adoration." The fact of the matter is that people need time before their Lord and Cor Jesu provides that opportunity; they are exposed to silence and yet are given a way to sing their heart out to Jesus. It is free of charge and requires no registration (what more could you ask for!?). If someone hasn't been to Mass in a while, Cor Jesu is a "non-confrontational" way to invite someone to church since it's not Mass and can be explained as "a time to pray and sing some songs" or maybe just "a peaceful time to reflect on life." Find a location near you and bring a crowd! Or, like some youth do, make an hour and 40 minute drive just to adore Jesus!
You should have received a flyer and registration form from Cindy regarding Discipleship Day 2017 (formerly called Faith Formation Day). Discipleship Day will be held at St. Catherine's in Redwood Falls and will start with Holy Mass at 8:30 AM. See the flyer below for more information. Invite your whole religious education team and all those who are involved in evangelization in your parish!
New speaker! Deacon Mike McKeown will be presenting during the 2 PM breakout session on Evangelization in the Parish: Discipleship and Adult Faith Formation. Deacon Mike has a plethora of experience not only in parish-based small groups and evangelization teams, but also in evangelization in the secular world. He will be presenting on the need for evangelization and adult faith formation in the parish and how to practically address those needs. Click the button below for an updated flyer with Deacon Mike's presentation, which was not able to be published on the original flyer sent out in the parish mailing.
Some of you have been asking about the Gathers meetings and whether they will continue. There will be regional meetings starting this Fall for those who work in religious education, youth ministry, and adult faith formation. Deacon Mike (team lead for adult faith formation) will be accompanying me and we would love to talk about the happenings in your parishes, answer any questions you may have, and provide an opportunity for networking and good conversation.Thank you for your patience as we reorganize here at the diocesan offices and look for ways to best serve those who work so hard in the parishes. Invitations to regional meetings are forthcoming and I'm excited to see how the Lord is working in your lives and in your parishes!
