Walking and talking with youth - a resource
2017 marks the 100th anniversary of the first Fatima apparition (hence the banner image). Our Lady spoke to the three children at Fatima - "I come from Heaven" - and captured the attention of the world. This year, we will be hearing much about Our Lady of Fatima.
Last month we spoke about the importance of engaging in conversation with youth. Often, we tend to avoid it because, well, starting a conversation can be a challenge sometimes. But in order to walk with people (in this case, youth), just as Jesus did on the road to Emmaus, we need to actually talk to them. Next month, I'll speak more about how to create an environment where these conversations can happen, but first I want to provide a resource for this idea of "walking (and talking) with youth." It is a talk from Jim Beckman and was given at a conference I attended. As you listen, ask yourself the question: "How are the youth in Mr. Beckman's stories being brought closer to Christ?" I realize that he is the founder of a program, so Disclaimer Number One: I am not promoting this program. Disclaimer Number Two: I realize the "youth conference" he refers to is a specific youth conference and I am also not using this talk to promote that conference. Again, focus on the question above as you listen to the talk and that will guide your reflection on the matter.
