Christ calls women to share His mission

by Mary Karnitz

Have you ever been on a mission? I can’t recall a time when I wasn’t.  Somewhere in the back of your mind is a mission. It may not be formalized. You may not even consciously consider it. But it’s there. It’s your driving purpose in life. It’s the reason you get up in the morning. It determines how you treat other people, how you spend your money, and how you prioritize your time.

Jesus had a saving mission, and he shared it with his disciples. The Council of Catholic Women (CCW), like the original disciples, have become coworkers in carrying out Jesus’ mission. As Jesus calls us to share his mission, each of us seeks to bring others to Jesus through our CCW mission of prayer, study, and service. It is a natural response of faith.

We were planned for God’s pleasure, so our first purpose is to offer authentic prayer. We were created to become like Christ, so our second purpose is to study our faith and learn true discipleship.  We were made for a mission, so our third purpose is to be of genuine service to each other.

When God has a mission for you he gives you the tools and the grace to fulfill that mission.  The life of the Council of Catholic Women comes from the energy of its women. The many projects of CCW give women throughout the diocese the opportunity to deepen their spirituality, increase their knowledge of the Church, and strengthen their leadership skills through prayer, study, and service.

All are welcome to share in Gods’ mission by attending the CCW Fall Gatherings to be held in each of the six regions throughout the diocese.   We will be nourished spiritually as well as physically with the holy sacrifice of the Mass, an appetizing meal, and an inspiring guest speaker. The gatherings will energize you to do the work we are all called to do as Catholics. They are also a means to build friendships and grow in holiness.
