Memorial Mass to remember those who lost their lives on September 11 terrorist attack

A memorial Mass commemo-rating the over 2,800 lives that were lost including 343 firefighters and 71 police officers in the September 11 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center in New York, will be held on Wednesday, September 11 at 10:30 a.m. at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. Bishop John C. Nienstedt will be the celebrant.

New Ulm Police Chief, Howard Zins has invited 116 law enforcement and fire departments to attend the Mass at Holy Trinity Cathedral. Twelve police officers from Germany will be in attendance. They are part of an exchange program that has developed throughout the years into a true friendship between the New Ulm Police officers and the German officers. Police Chief Zins said he is asking the participating police officers and firefighters to attend the Mass in full uniform.

Participants will gather in front of the Cathedral and enter as a group.

Those attending the service will be asked to sign a sheet which, along with a card and pictures of the service, will be sent to the New York Police and Fire Departments.

Also in attendance will be the New Ulm American Legion Color Guard.

The memorial Mass is open to the public. A light lunch will follow the service.

Bishop Nienstedt will also be the celebrant at a Memorial Mass on September 11 at St. Mary’s Church, Sleepy Eye at 7:00 p.m. All members of the local law enforcement agencies, fire fighters, State Patrol, EMTs, and ambulance personnel have been invited. The Veterans Honor Guard has also been invited to represent each branch of the military.

Following the Memorial Mass, a reception will follow in the church social hall. The public is invited.
