Catechetical Sunday-love beyond all . . .
New Ulm - Catechesis is an integral part of the mission of the church. As such, a special time is set aside each year to celebrate this special ministry. Catechetical Sunday is a day to honor the work and dedication of catechists through a special rite of commissioning and blessing. This public ritual usually takes place at a weekend liturgy in the parish. It is only one of many ways in which catechetical ministers should be recognized, affirmed, and encouraged on an ongoing basis.
The theme of this years Catechetical Sunday, Love Beyond All Telling, is directed to each and every person in the church. We are all called to be people who give out and receive back forgiveness and mercy. We are ever mindful of the love that God shares without restriction or restraint. For those with open hearts, this is news too good to keep to ourselves. It compels us to share with one another the creative work of the Father, the words and witness of Jesus Christ, and the life-giving presence of the Holy Spirit.
Pray often throughout the year for catechists, parents, and all those who are dedicated in a special way to sharing the word of God with others.
Consider ways in which you can become more fully involved in the catechetical work of the church-volunteering as a catechist or classroom aide, serving on the parishs education committee or school board, sponsoring a catechumen, or taking part in a parish adult faith formation program.
Affirm and encourage ministers of catechesis in your parish. Send a note of thanks to a volunteer catechist or classroom teacher, the pastor, the DRE, or the principal. Make an extra contribution to your parish media center or school library. Donate time or resources to support outreach ministries of your parish or diocese that provide a living witness of the gospel message to those in need.
Be mindful of opportunities in your daily life to live out your faith-through a kind word, a helping hand, or a willingness to listen.
