CCW Recognition Sunday

Glencoe - Most Reverend Raymond A. Lucker, Bishop of the Diocese of New Ulm, has proclaimed Sunday, October 8, 2000, Council of Catholic Women (CCW) Recognition Sunday in the New Ulm diocese.

This day is set aside to recognize the accomplishments of the women of the National Council of Catholic Women (NCCW) thus promoting NCCW. This day emphasizes the great work of the National Council of Catholic Women and acknowledges those who have helped NCCW grow.

What is NCCW? It is an organization of concerned women established by the Bishops of the United States some eighty years ago. These women work together to develop their knowledge of the Church, strengthen their leadership skills, and deepen their spirituality through prayer and service. As local parishes celebrate CCW Recognition Sunday, the people of the diocese will be educated and informed of what CCW is and what the women of CCW do.

The women’s organizations of the parishes within the New Ulm diocese form a federation that makes up the New Ulm Diocesan Council of Catholic Women. These parish affiliates are supported by the structure of the National Council of Catholic Women that represents millions of women across this country.

When members are empowered and educated, they can reach out with Gospel values to meet the needs of the Church and society. Father Gene Lozinski, New Ulm Diocesan Moderator, says, "CCW is an avenue by which women of the Church are able to fulfill their baptismal calling. It is a way through which women in the parish can enter more deeply into the life of Christ and the Church."

As Bishop Raymond Lucker has pointed out, "so many women in parish after parish have worked tirelessly for our parishes through CCW. They have sacrificed time, talent, and treasure. Because of their dedication and commitment to Christ and his Church, our diocese is a better and stronger diocese. Through their leadership training, they have become an invaluable resource in our parishes."
