Together in Communion moves lay ministers into new discoveries

Over 40 people from throughout the Diocese of New Ulm are participating in a six session course to deepen their understanding of central Catholic doctrines and to broaden their focus on lay holiness and spiritual practices. The program, Together in Communion, is a collaborative effort of the Diocese of New Ulm and Saint Mary’s University of Winona to provide quality lay leader formation.

The first session was held on Saturday, September 16 at the Church of St. Catherine in Redwood Falls with Dr. Greg Sobolewski from St. Mary’s University of Winona as lecturer.

He presented material on theology as a convergence of revelation through scripture, tradition and faith experience. He also shared insights into St. Augustine and how his theology shaped the doctrine of original sin.

This program is a continuation of the learning that began with the  "FOUNDATIONS"  program participants of 2004-2006.  As lay leaders continue to be essential to parish ministry, programs like Together in Communion, are offered to assist lay ministers in gaining lay ecclesial certification or continuing education in the field of theology and ministry.
