Third annual audit complete New Ulm diocese once again found to be in full compliance

The Diocese of New Ulm recently completed its third annual audit to determine compliance with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People.  The Gavin Group, an outside firm hired by the USCCB, facilitates the ongoing audits of the 195 dioceses in the United States.  This year’s audit reviewed current diocesan policies and procedures regarding sexual abuse of minors, outreach programs for victims/survivors, safe environment programs, and other actions directed by the Charter.

On September 14, 2005, the Diocese of New Ulm received notice that it was again found to be in full compliance with all the articles of the Charter. The auditor gave the diocese high marks for its current communication policy and Web site links regarding the reporting of sexual misconduct,  as well as its policies and procedures.

For more information on the Diocese of New Ulm’s policies and procedures pertaining to sexual misconduct by clergy, visit the diocesan Web site at www.dnu.org, or call the Diocesan Pastoral Center at (507) 359-2966.

Since the implementation of the Charter in 2002, over 15,000 parish employees and volunteers have taken part in safe environment workshops and undergone background checks.

The Diocese of New Ulm is committed to implement the articles of the Charter to ensure the safety of all children and young people.
