Rev. Edward Wojtowicz dies at age 84

a few weeks short of celebrating 60 years as a priest

 

Fr. Edward L. Wojtowicz died on Thursday, September 16, 2004 at the age of 84.

 

The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday, September 21, 2004 at the Church of the Holy Cross in Minneapolis, with Burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Minneapolis.

 

Father Wojtowicz was born February 6, 1920. He began his studies for the priesthood in 1939 at St. Paul Seminary. He was ordained at the St. Paul Cathedral on October 7, 1944 for the Archdiocese of St. Paul by Archbishop John G. Murray.

 

He served as associate pastor at the Church of St. Anne in North Minneapolis, Holy Cross in Minneapolis, Immaculate Conception in Columbia Heights, St. Aloysius in Olivia, and Holy Trinity in Winsted. He served as pastor at St. James in Nassau. Father Wojtowicz continued his priestly ministry in the Diocese of New Ulm when it was established on November 18, 1957 and served as pastor at the Church of St. Joseph in Clements, Ss. Peter and Paul in Ivanhoe, St. Philip in Litchfield, St. John in Morton, and St. Mary in Bechyn. He retired from active ministry on March 1, 1995, and had been living in St. Paul, Minnesota since his retirement.

 

On October 7, 2004, Fr. Wojtowicz would have celebrated his 60th Anniversary of his Ordination to the Priesthood.
