Advent Prayer Service December 10 at Church of St. Mary, Bird Island

All families, youth, and adults of the diocese are invited to join Bishop John C. Nienstedt for an Advent Prayer Service in preparation for the season of Christmas to be held Sunday, December 10, 2006 at the Church of St. Mary, 220 S. 10th Street, Bird Island, MN beginning at 3:00 p.m.

Bring your Baby Jesus figure from your nativity crèches or nativity sets for a special blessing by Bishop Nienstedt during the service.

This annual Advent Prayer Service “Is an opportunity to take a break from the busyness of buying gifts, sending cards, and decorating homes. It will help us to refocus the themes of Advent, namely, a time for waiting, a time for prayer, and a time for preparing our hearts for the coming of Christ," said Bryan Reising, Director of Religious Education and Adult Faith Formation for the Diocese of New Ulm.

In addition, gifts of "swaddling clothes” will be accepted at this time. These items, which can include sleepers, layette items, or blankets, will be donated to the Diocese of New Ulm Mission Parish in San Lucas Toliman, Guatemala, Birthright, or Human Services.
