Litchfield
students take part in a pilgrimage through the diocese
A group from St. Philip
School in Litchfield made a pilgrimage of the
Diocese of New Ulm early in May.
Mrs. Teri Buschette and her 5th
grade class were accompanied by Principal Diana McCarney
and 2 parent chaperones, as they toured half a dozen churches throughout the
diocese, along with other points of interest.
The pilgrimage began with a Mass celebrated at Church
of Our Lady (Manannah)
by Rev. Francis Garvey. The group then traveled to Church
of St. Gertrude in Forest
City, and Church of St.
John in Darwin
before making their way to Winsted where they toured Holy
Trinity Church
and School. Then, on to New Ulm, first stopping at Hermann
Heights Park
for a lunch made possible by St. Philip’s Council of Catholic Women. In New Ulm the group toured the Diocesan
Pastoral Center,
Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, and the Way of the Cross.
Last on the pilgrimage was Sleepy Eye, where the group was
given a tour of the Schoenstatt Shrine and Retreat
Center. The final stop of the day
was at Church of St.
Mary, hosted by Rev. Brian Oestreich, a graduate
of St. Philip’s School.
The day was filled with prayer, and information about the
Diocese of New Ulm. It was truly a
fitting way for the graduating 5th graders to end their years at St. Philip’s
School, and prepare to continue their journey in faith.
