Fr. Joseph M. Kasel dies at age 80

Fr. Joseph M. Kasel, age 80, died on Saturday, October 11, 2003.

A Memorial Mass was celebrated on Thursday, October 16, 2003 at St. Edward in Minneota with burial at St. Edward Cemetery.

Fr. Kasel was born September 8, 1923, in St. Paul, MN. He was ordained to the priesthood at the St. Paul Cathedral on June 5, 1948 for the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis by Bishop James Byrne.

He served as Associate Pastor at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Columbia Heights, St. John in St. Paul, and Holy Trinity in New Ulm. Fr. Kasel entered the Diocese of New Ulm in 1957 and served as Pastor at Holy Name in Vesta, St. Leo in St. Leo, St. Anthony in Watkins, St. Willibrord in Gibbon, and St. Edward in Minneota.

Fr. Kasel retired from active ministry on September 12, 1990 and lived in Minneota, until he moved to Divine Providence Health Center in Ivanhoe, Minnesota.
