Becoming Advent People

by Lucille O’Donnell

We often look forward to new beginnings. Students and teachers look forward to a new school year in September. We look ahead to a wedding, or a graduation. We anticipate a New Year. These events and others signify a fresh start.

New beginnings give opportunities to sow new seeds with the hope of yielding new fruit. Advent is the beginning of a new liturgical year. We are called to be Advent People, to sow new seeds and bear fruit in whatever capacity we are able to do. We are called to wait with Mary and respond as she did, "May it be done to me according to your word." How will we be the expectant witness of Christ in this liturgical year?
