Sleepy Eye native honored for her years of service

Sleepy Eye - On February 5, St. Mary’s School in Sleepy Eye held their 1st annual Alumni Hall of Fame Banquet awards night in the St. Mary’s Church and social room. The event began with a Mass followed by a social, a dinner, and ending with the awards program.

That evening two achievement awards were given to alumni of St. Mary’s. They are the Distinguished Alumni Service and the Distinguished Alumni Athletic Achievement Award.

Receiving the Distinguished Alumni Service Award was Sister Margeen Hoffmann, OSF, a 1954 graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Sleepy Eye. There are several criteria for being nominated for this award: the recipient must be a St. Mary’s School graduate at least 20 years prior to induction; must have made significant contribution(s) to their community and society through service or distinguished career; should demonstrate qualities of character, citizenship, and faith that reflect the philosophy of St. Mary’s School.

Sr. Margeen, a member of the Sisters of St. Francis in Rochester, MN, has met these criteria and beyond! Since 1991, Sister Margeen has been director of the Gift of Life Transplant House where she is responsible for the management of the hospitality house.
