Nourishing the spirit and the body ecumenical Lenten event held in Marshall

Lenten Series 2005

A Lenten series "Soup and Sermon" was hosted by Chic Hat-itude of Marshall (Red Hat Society) assisted by MCCW Women, and Women of First Lutheran Church, Wesley Methodist Church and Albright Methodist Church.

Gourmet soups, garnishes, breads and crackers were served to nearly 200 community residents each Wednesday during Lent by the women of participating Marshall Area Ministerial Association Churches.

The goal was to nourish the spirit as well as the body, of all of the people who chose to be “travel companions” on this year’s Lenten Journey. Bible history sermons, interactive sermons, bone-rattling sermons, and inspirational sermons kept everyone’s interest, as the season of Lent moved along.

Because Lent began so early this year, an elaborately decorated Christmas tree gradually lost branches. The theme was carried out with mural-sized screens painted by local artist Judy Mack Hennen depicting the ever-changing Christmas tree.  Each week a screen was added to help show the progression through Lent. The final screen revealing the Easter Cross.
