Since 1981, Schoenstatt on the Lake Retreat Center has served the spiritual needs of the Schoenstatt Movement, the Diocese of New Ulm and greater Minnesota, national and international guests.
In the late nineties, Divine Providence indicated it was time to consider expansion of the facility due to: a significant upsurge of participants in the summer camp programs offered by the Schoenstatt Sisters - more adequate sleeping accommo-dations were necessary; a desire to conduct adult retreats - the bunk rooms were not conducive for this purpose; and lastly, more accommodations were needed to house incoming sisters. A generous memorial, given in memory of Richard J. Mathiowetz for this purpose, assisted in the conviction that now was the time to renovate and build.
