Hesse and Perez to be ordained to the priesthood
For the first time since 1990 the Diocese of New Ulm will celebrate multiple priesthood ordinations. On June 2, 2001, at St. Anthonys parish in Watkins, Deacon Tony Hesse and Deacon Samuel Perez will be ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of New Ulm.
Both men are currently concluding their formation at the Saint Paul Seminary School of Divinity. After ordination Hesse will serve as associate pastor at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm and Perez will serve the parish of St. Mary in Willmar as associate pastor.
After completing his education and formation in Guatemala Perez came to the diocese as a missionary with the guidance of Father Greg Schaffer, pastor of the San Lucas Mission. After his arrival in the diocese Perez was hosted by the parishes of St. Paul in Walnut Grove and St. Mary in Tracy. In the two years since his arrival in the Diocese Perez has been able to master the English language and has warmed the hearts of those he meets.
Hesse looks forward to his assignment at the Cathedral and hopes to work with the students of the parish and school. An avid outdoorsman, Hesse enjoys the lakes and nature of the diocese. During his seminary years he worked at St. Peter parish in St. Peter and St. Mary in Bird Island.
Please join Deacon Hesse and Deacon Perez for the Mass of Ordination at 11:00 a.m. on June 2.
