JRLC
Day on the Hill
Over 900 expected to gather
to work for social justice in Minnesota
St. Paul, MN - The Joint Religious Legislative Coalition (JRLC) 2007
Day on the Hill, will be held Tuesday, March 27, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. beginning at the RiverCentre (7th and
Kellogg, downtown St.
Paul). There
will be day-long shuttle service to the Minnesota State Capitol.
For several years now, Day on
the Hill has brought together approximately 950 faithful citizens to work for
social justice in Minnesota. The purpose of the day is to help those
participating in the day to have an effective meeting with their legislator and
to meet other activists who share JRLC’s vision for
the common good, social justice, and democracy. JRLC is the largest, most
inclusive interfaith public policy body in Minnesota - people of diverse faiths bringing vision and wisdom
to the public realm for the well-being of all Minnesotans. It is authorized and
governed by the Minnesota Catholic Conference, the Minnesota Council of Churches,
the Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas, and the Islamic Center of Minnesota. JRLC is the instrument by which
these faith communities work together on social justice issues in Minnesota.
Keynote for the day will be
Rev. Stephen Adrian, pastor of St.Matthew’s parish
community on the west side of St. Paul for the past 28 years. Fr. Adrian is a noted
community leader and a force for social justice. He received the General Mills
Foundation’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Local Legend award and the University of St. Thomas John Ryan Award for meritorious service. A gifted teacher and
activist, Fr. Adrian has a practical vision of faith principles in the
public square.
The day begins with 8:30 a.m.
registration and breakfast followed by opening prayer, keynote speech, issue
briefings (affordable housing; early childhood; ending poverty; health care;
human rights; and tax fairness) and district table preparation. At 11:00 a.m. participants will be bussed to the State Capitol
where the schedule will include Social Justice Awards; Call to Justice; lunch
followed by meetings with legislators and debriefings.
