Parishes celebrate Jubilee Day for Women of diocese
Glencoe, MN - Most Reverend Raymond A Lucker, Bishop of the Diocese of New Ulm, in union with our Holy Father, Pope John Paul II, has proclaimed Saturday, March 25, 2000, as one of the Jubilee Days for Women in the New Ulm diocese.
Pope John Paul II has designated a number of Jubilee Days throughout the year 2000 to recognize and celebrate different groups of people. The international Jubilee Day for Women will be celebrated on Saturday, March 25. The day has a twofold purpose: to honor and remember women for their contributions to society and to the Church and to reflect with women on the challenges of the next century. The U.S. bishops Committee on Women in Society and in the church has encouraged celebrations of the day in dioceses and parishes across the country.
The theme is "Women Saying Yes to God," a reference to the Feast of the Annunciation, which is celebrated on March 25. The theme invites us to consider how women have responded throughout history and continue to respond to Gods call in families, religious communities, society, and the Church.
Parishes throughout the diocese will plan their observance of this date with the help of their local CCW Church Commission Chair. In their observance parishes strive to encourage, support, and empower the work of CCW.
