Maronite Census conducted at pope’s request
The Maronite Catholic Bishop of the Western U.S. has initiated a Maronite Census within the 34 states under his jurisdiction. The Most Reverend Bishop Robert J. Shaheen is asking that all Maronites register with the Maronite Census.
Bishop Robert J. Shaheen said “The purpose of this census in twofold. First we have been asked by the Holy See to compile a census of Maronites within our Eparchy. This request stems from years of religious persecution in Lebanon and the fleeing of Christians to other countries searching for a better life. Secondly, this census is to make the Eparchy 12 aware of Maronites in areas that we now have no presence.” At the present time of the 34 states that make up the Eparchy, 16 have no Maronite Church or Mission.” The Maronite Catholic Church is one of the world’s oldest Christian communities.
