A visit from Italy!

Sleepy Eye, MN - Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye hosted visitors from Italy from Jan. 30 - Feb. 3. During their visit, Bishop John C. Nienstedt celebrated Mass and joined the guests for breakfast.

Visiting were the Superior General, Sr. Giustina Valicenti, and the Vicar General, Sr. Imelda Malovan of the Daughters of St. Mary of Providence. The Sisters at the home are members of an international community of religious women founded in Northern Italy in 1881. Their current congregation’s head-quarters is in Rome, Italy.

The Sisters are visiting all of the facilities, parishes and schools that their Congregation staffs in the United States which include stops in Milbank, SD; Chicago, IL; Philadelphia, PA; Boston, MA; Vancouver, BC; and Mexico City in addition to their four day stop in Sleepy Eye. Every three years, the sisters travel to all of the missions throughout the world where they minister. They will continue their travels this year to India and Romania and have completed their tour of Italy, Spain, Switzerland and the South American countries of Brazil, Paraguay, Colombia and Chile within the last two years.

The Daughters of St. Mary of Providence minister to persons in need, primarily the elderly and those with disabilities. They also minister in parishes, schools and various social service centers.
