Spranger chosen as Woman of the Year!

by Paulette Collins

Paula Spranger, a member of Holy Redeemer parish in Marshall, was selected by the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women as the 2004 Woman of the Year!

Spranger’s nomination was recommended by members of her parish CCW. Spranger’s and sixteen other nominations were reviewed and scored by the New Ulm Diocesan Council of Catholic Women board members based on family, church, community, and Council of Catholic Women involvement.

Spranger is the mother of eight children and ten grandchildren.

Those nominating her stated, "She has dedicated her life to serving God and His church. Through her quiet, gentle manner comes strength and she has made a huge impact in our parish community and in our CCW Council. Because of her example, many are drawn to service in our church and in our CCW Council. She carries on the mission of Christ in her daily life with such a quiet, gentle manner, yet with such great accomplishments."

Spranger’s involvement with church includes lectoring and serving as a Eucharistic Minister to the nursing home and homebound. She has Bible study in her home, facilitates Emmaus retreats, and helps with fundraisers. Spranger was instrumental in starting Holy Hours at Holy Redeemer and is a prayer leader.

Spranger’s community involvement includes Meals-on-Wheels delivery, MCCL, Heart-to-Heart, and Birthright.

Her involvement in the Council of Catholic Women is wide and varied. She has been president and vice-president, as well as Organization & Services, Community Concerns, and Church Commission Coordinator in her parish. She has attended national, diocesan, and regional conventions and gatherings. Spranger has been very influential in welcoming new members and encouraging active membership.
