New ministry in St. Peter proves to be a success
by Nancy Torrison, Youth Group Director
As they end their first year in Youth Ministry, the Church of St. Peter Youth Group and Leadership Team report a successful, fun, and inspiring first year.
Led by Fr. Phil Schotzko and a committed group of volunteer parents, Gustavus Neuman Center students, and adults from the parish, served over 70 youth this year. The ministry offered a variety of different activities on a monthly basis, starting last August with Mass on the beach, skiing, swimming, and boating at Brey Park. Some of the activities offered included bowling, snow skiing, hayrides, bonfires, and two trips to Sharing and Caring Hands in Minneapolis to serve meals and play with orphaned children living at Mary's Place. Each month's event is preceded by praise and worship music and a faith building activity. The Leadership Team focused this ministry on 7th, 8th and 9th grade students because this age group showed up regularly to events. The Team hopes to add a Senior High Youth Ministry next fall.
Currently being planned is the summer camping trip to Lake Shetek State Park. The theme, The Cup of Life, which focuses on being open to God will be woven into three days of activities.
