Fr. John Murphy dies at age 74
Reverend John M. Murphy, age 74, died Monday, April 30, 2001.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Thursday, May 3, 2001, at St. Johns in Little Canada. The burial was in the Calvary Cemetery, St. Paul.
Father Murphy was born January 13, 1927. He was ordained by Bishop James J. Byrne at the St. Paul Cathedral on June 2, 1951, for the Archdiocese of St. Paul-Minneapolis.
He served as Associate Pastor at the Basilica, Minneapolis, St. Theresa, St. Paul, and as Administrator at St. Willibrord, Gibbon. He also served as Pastor at St. John, Ortonville; St. Joseph, Montevideo; St. Catherine, Redwood Falls; Holy Rosary, North Mankato; St. Raphael, Springfield and Sacramental Minister at St. Joseph Lamberton; Pastor at St. John, Appleton, and St. Joseph, Holloway.
He retired from active ministry on December 1, 1991 and had been residing in St. Paul since.
Father Murphy volunteered in ministry at the parish of St. John in Little Canada from December 1996 to August 2000.
