Fr. Eugene Hackert to celebrate 50th anniversary

Father Eugene C. Hackert will celebrate his Golden Anniversary of Ordination to the Priesthood on Sunday, June 10, 2001, at the Church of St. Willibrord, Gibbon, MN, with a Mass of Thanksgiving at 10:00 a.m. followed by a reception and buffet luncheon in the social hall. There will be a program at 1:00 p.m. and the reception with luncheon continuing until 4:00 p.m.

Father Hackert was ordained to the priesthood on June 2, 1951, at the St. Paul Cathedral, by Bishop James J. Byrne.

Following ordination he served the Archdiocese as an assistant pastor at St. Agnes parish in St. Paul. He entered the Diocese of New Ulm on June 9, 1958 where he served at Holy Redeemer, Marshall; Holy Trinity, Winsted; St. Gregory, Lafayette; St. Clara, Clara City; Immaculate Conception, St. Peter; St. Mary, Tracy; St. Paul, Walnut Grove; St. Mathias, Wanda; St. Michael, Morgan; St. Joseph, Clements; and presently St. Willibrord, Gibbon. From 1960-64 he served as Vice-Chancellor for the diocese.

In 1996, Bishop Raymond A. Lucker presented Father Hackert with the Diocesan Distinguished Service Medal.
