Diocesan Youth Council has successful year

The Diocesan Youth Council is a hard-working team of young people who work hard during the year to promote good activities for young people in the New Ulm and the nation.

There are two primary events held in the diocese during the year that the Youth Council spends a considerable amount of time and planning. They are the Junior High Festival and the High School Rally. The Diocesan Youth Council is involved in carrying out the work of these events which can instill and renew the faith life of teens and their leaders who participate.

Youth Council members were involved in planning and assisting with the trip to St. Louis for the National Catholic Youth Conference last November. This event had a significant impact on people all over the New Ulm diocese.

Some Youth Council members have been involved with the Focus Retreat Team which is from the Marshall/Tyler area. They have gone out to parishes to conduct retreats upon request. Other members of the Council have been called to go out to parishes to speak about youth involvement in their parishes and to encourage involvement in diocesan programs as well.

Soon Diocesan Youth Council members will be helping with the summer leadership camps that will be held at the Center for Youth Ministry near Renville.

As June approaches we are reminded that the DYC year will come to an end, but more importantly, the terms of many members will be completed as they graduate from high school. We are grateful for the dedication of these youth and their adult leaders as they have had a lasting impact on the Diocese of New Ulm.

We are seeking new candidates to apply for the Youth Council for the 2000-01 year. The application date is June 10. Any interested applicants going into 10-12th grade for next Fall may apply.
