Fr. Barry retirement celebration

On Sunday, June 18, 2000, St. Mary parish, Arlington, MN, will host an open house retirement celebration in honor of Father James Barry, from 2-4 p.m. at St. Mary parish hall, 504 NW 7th Ave, Arlington, MN 55307.

Father Jim was ordained to the priesthood on February 25, 1961, at St. Mary, Willmar, MN, by Bishop Alphonse J. Schladweiler.

His first assignment was at St. Anthony, Watkins, MN. Other past assignments include: St. Frances, Benson, 1962; St. Peter, St. Peter, 1962; St. Aloysius, Olivia, 1962; St. Dionysius, Tyler, 1965; Visitation, Danvers, 1971. In 1973, Father Jim attended the University of St. John, Collegeville for post graduate studies. In 1974, he was assigned to serve at St. Thomas Moore, Lake Lillian and in 1976 St. Anastasia, Hutchinson. From 1976-1989, he served as diocesan Director of the Office of Worship, and from 1976-1979 and again in 1987-1989, he served as diocesan Director of the Office of Continuing Education for Clergy. Father Jim then served at St. Joseph Lamberton, 1979; St. Thomas, Sanborn (Sacramental Minister) 1983; St. Mathias, Wanda (Sacramental Minister) 1983; St. Mary, Willmar, 1989; St. Mary, Arlington, 1996; St. Thomas, Jessenland (Sacramental Minister) 1996-98; and St. Joseph, Henderson (Sacramental Minister) 1996.

Father Jim has touched the lives of so many during his priesthood through his guidance, friendship, and love. So it is with a spirit of Christian joy and love that the Church of St. Mary will host this retirement celebration. All are invited to attend.
