Jumpstart Friday youth provide community service

Jumpstart Friday is a group of local teens in grades 7-12 that meet weekly on Friday mornings for breakfast, prayer, devotions, and praise music before attending classes at Springfield Public School. It is a service provided and funded by the local churches and generous benefactors. The group is self-led under the supervision of Laurie Krueger, Lucy Potter and Clarice Platz. The youth are representatives of all the Springfield area churches.

This past summer the group decided to participate in Helping Hands Day on June 21. The project chose house painting. The youth then sought donations, and organized work teams to get the project completed. Dennis Potter power-washed the home to get a jumpstart on scraping and the work crews began scraping paint. The house was given a good coat of primer, and the final coat of paint and trim was painted. All of the local pastors assisted with the project and the local churches provided snacks and lunch.

Everyone had a great time assisting with the project and takes great pride in their work as they see the house everyday when they attend school at Springfield Public.
