As Bishop Nienstedt has written about this month in his Pastoral Letter (page 2), National Migration Week is officially observed each year by the U.S. Catholic Bishops following the Feast of the Epiphany. This year’s theme is Welcoming Christ in the Migrant, which is an invitation and a challenge to provide welcome for the migrants, immigrants, refugees, human trafficking victims, and other people on the move who come to our land seeking justice and peace.
The theme reminds us of Jesus' scriptural admonition to us: 'Lord, when did we see you a stranger ... and not minister to your needs?' He will answer them, 'Amen, I say to you, what you did not do for one of these least ones, you did not do for me.' (Mt. 25: 44-45)
Scriptures and Catholic Social Teaching call upon all of us
to examine migration issues and respond to the strangers among us as we would

To assist us in this expression of faith, a wide variety of resources for parishes and schools has been developed and are available on the USCCB/MRS National Migration Week Web site at www.usccb.org/mrs/nmw.shtml. Additionally, we are encouraged to become informed and active in the Justice for Immigrants: A Journey of Hope campaign. Acogiendo a Cristo en el Migrante
La Semana Nacional
de Migración es observada en enero cada año después de la Fiesta de la
Epifanía. El tema para el 2007 es
Acogiendo a Cristo en el Migrante, el cual es a la vez una invitación y un reto
para acoger a los emigrantes, inmigrantes, refugiados, a las víctimas de
tráfico humano y todos los demás que llegan a nuestra tierra en busca de paz y
justicia. El tema nos hace recordar la admonición de la escritura de Jesús:
‘Señor, ¿cuándo
te vimos hambriento, o sediento, o forastero, o desnudo, o enfermo, o en la cárcel,
y no te servimos?’ Entonces les responderá diciendo: ‘De cierto os digo, que en
cuanto no lo hicisteis a uno de estos más pequeños, tampoco lo hicisteis a mí.’
(Mt. 25: 44-45).
Afortunadamente,
la Doctrina Católica Social ofrece un razonado contexto moral para examinar los
problemas como éste en base a las enseñanzas de Jesús. Lo invitamos a
"Acoger a Cristo en el Migrante" a través de oración, educación y
difusión parroquial. Para ayudarnos en este reto, se han desarrollado una serie
de recursos para las parroquias y escuelas, los cuales se encuentran
disponibles en la página de internet http://www.usccb.org/mrs/nmw.shtml.
Asimismo, estamos invitados a participar activamente en la campaña católica de
