Meaningful goals and objectives of the Council of Catholic Women

by Mary Karnitz

For the Council of Catholic Women, sharing Jesus means to "Go into the world and proclaim the gospel" through the Council of Catholic Women mission of prayer, study and service.

The most effective way I know to express this mission is by means of our goals and objectives. These goals and objectives flow from our mission. They focus on what we want to be, what we want to do, and on the values or principles upon which being and doing are based.

Goal I:

Through prayer, the Council of Catholic Women will elicit enthusiasm for their faith in Jesus and freely share it with others.

Objective 1A: To foster amazement of the presence of Christ in the Eucharist and all the sacraments, the outward signs of our Catholic faith.

Objective 1B: To foster an appreciation of God's word and an even deeper sense of prayer in the lives of all Catholics.

Objective 1C  To promote the vocational call to holy orders, religious life, and lay ministry within families, parishes and school programs.

Goal II:

Through study, the Council of Catholic Women will invite all people, whatever their social or cultural background, to join us in the fullness of the Catholic faith.

Objective 2A: To make the Council of Catholic Women more welcoming and hospitable.

Objective 2B: To empower the Council of Catholic Women to exercise their baptismal call, to evangelize and to foster conversion in the lives of all people.

Objective 2C: To invite the Council of Catholic Women to discipleship by effective oral and written communication.

Goal III:

Through service, the Council of Catholic Women will foster Gospel values in our society so that our nation may continue to be transformed.

Objective 3A: To promote and support the sanctity of human life in our society.

Objective 3B: To foster the importance of family, singles and seniors.

Objective 3C: To promote social justice, foster a sense of service and to provide for the needs of the diocesan church and universal church at large.

Our objectives are reached through the work of the six commissions: Church, Family Community, International, Legislation and Organization Services and the two committees: Reverence Life and Scholarship that make up the Council of Catholic Women.

As we begin a New Year, let’s not allow Jesus to become lost in our busy lives. When we lead others to Jesus, we will be richly blessed with a stronger faith and a renewed zeal to serve him.
