Promoting a culture of life

by Ellen Nester, DCCW President

After attending a performance of "Camelot," King Arthur stood out as a model of hope despite seeing war, infidelity and loss. His ideas of equality (the round table), chivalry, and protection all come tumbling down when the knights began to doubt and quarrel among themselves. At the end of the show, Arthur takes heart because one person dreams of a time when values are strong. Arthur sends Tom home with the command to remember there is a Camelot.

As the Anniversary of Roe v. Wade approaches, I believe we are finding that we are in King Arthur’s position as we look back on thirty years of legalized abortion in a nation dedicated to protecting human rights.

Research has shown that a child has brain waves at 6 weeks of gestation and a beating heart at 3 weeks after conception. Because of increased technology, ultra sounds show thumb-sucking babies at 18 weeks of gestation. Intra-uterine surgery can now correct medical abnormalities.

The abortion issue seems to have forced changes in the voting habits of Americans. Many people are choosing life. DCCW promotes a culture of life. Let’s pray that life becomes the priority.

There will be a March for Life at the Minnesota State Capital on Jan. 22. Buses/carpools will be going. Consider arranging your own carpool. Let’s show our support with

CCW women of hope.
