Searching for the Catholic Woman of the Year

by Geri Weber

She’s the one you call when you need help with the bloodmobile. She’s served as the Cub Scout or 4H leader for her son’s group. When the band is having a fund drive she’s there to do her part. Her cake pans fill the church kitchen because she brings something to every event.

She’s a lector, in the choir, and delivers meals on wheels. When the change came for lay Eucharistic Ministers she was part of the first group to sign up. She goes to the Council of Catholic Women (CCW) meetings and has held offices on the parish, region and even diocesan level.

But more importantly, she loves God. And because of this fact she spends time in prayer to him and his most precious son, Jesus. Through the Spirit’s prompting, she has come to understand that doing God’s will is the most important thing in her life. Serving his people and furthering the Kingdom of God on earth have become second nature for her. She would be a perfect candidate for the CCW Woman of the Year Award.

In each parish in the New Ulm diocese, there exists these wonderful women. The New Ulm Diocesan Council of Catholic Women annually honors one of these women. If you know of a Catholic woman in your parish that you would like to nominate for this annual award, contact your Parish CCW president for the Woman of the Year 2001 recommendation form and rules.

The deadline for recommendation is February 1, 2001. Send nominations to Geri Weber, New Ulm Diocesan Council of Catholic Women Vice President, 34664 Jessenland Road, Henderson, MN 56044. Follow the instructions carefully on the form and only the current forms may be used. The award will be presented at the NUDCCW Annual Spring Convention on April 28, 2001, at St. Mary, Sleepy Eye. Come join us to see this year’s deserving Catholic woman receive her award.
