High school rally brings back memories

by Bill Casey

This spring when the high school rally happens in April there will be a celebration of 25 years of hosting rallies in the New Ulm diocese. This year, with no exception, hundreds of people are expected to gather in Granite Falls on Sunday, April 7, 2002.

After 25 years there are many memories to be shared. This year as a special feature, the previous Diocesan Youth Council members have been invited to come back for the weekend. Announcements have been mailed to previous Youth Council members. There are quite a few, yet, to be found after the spread of twenty-five years and people moving far from home. The response has been very interesting as we discover what has happened to people over the years. Many of these rallies could be remembered by the adults who have taken youth to them over the years. Since youth graduate and move on this leaves the adult leaders behind to keep things going.

The gatherings continue to involve and inspire youth to come together and celebrate being Catholic. There is always music, there is always food, and there are always speakers with an interest in captivating the attention of young people.

This year the featured music group and keynote speaker is from a band in Florida that many youth have seen at the National Catholic Youth Conference. The band is Scarecrow and Tinmen, a popular band with teens. They are sure to make a statement that youth will never forget.
