DCCW scholarships available

by Mary Arnoldi

The New Ulm Diocesan Council of Catholic Women Scholarship program has as its aim: to promote, empower, and educate CCW members in spirituality, leadership, and service; to promote and stimulate interest in the learning apostolate, and to further the useful knowledge of additional training to be of further service to others.

While the aim of the Diocesan Scholarship Program remains the same, the program itself, through its many useful years of existence, has changed as the needs of its recipient’s change.

To make the Scholarship Program even more effective and easier to use, the Diocesan Scholarship Committee recently implemented a few changes and/or additions. They are: Scholarship applicants may be reimbursed for tuition or registration fee for an educational workshop that they attended during the previous year as well as one that they will attend during the upcoming year.

Each person applying for a CCW Scholarship must be active in a parish ministry in the parish that the applicant attends or serves, and each applicant will be asked to describe their parish ministry in detail on the application form.

The required signatures on the application form, along with the signature of the applicant, have now been changed to the signature of the parish CCW scholarship coordinator or the parish CCW president and the signature of the parish pastor or pastoral administrator.

The financial support for the Scholarships continues to come through donations from fundraisers in individual parishes throughout the New Ulm diocese. Those donations are turned in yearly by March 15.

Scholarships of up to $200 each are available to those persons providing leadership in CCW activities, teaching in parish Catholic schools or religious education programs; those ministering within their parish in music, administration and in a wide range of social concerns activities. Your parish CCW Scholarship Coordinator will answer questions as best they can.

Scholarship application forms are available in every parish and are to be distributed only at your local parish CCW meeting. All applications should be mailed to Mary Arnoldi, PO Box 202, Lamberton, MN 56152 and must be postmarked by March 15, 2001. Applications postmarked after that date will not be accepted.

Mary Arnoldi is from Lamberton and is the New Ulm Council of Catholic Women Scholarship Coordinator.
