Service project turns sixth graders into "cheerful givers"

St. Peter, MN - The sixth grade Religious Education classes at the Church of St. Peter in St. Peter, recently became "cheerful givers" assembling birthday bags for children who may not otherwise receive a gift on their special day.

As one of their service projects for the year, the sixth grade students invited all religious education students in kindergarten through eighth grade to donate small toys and candy to include in the birthday bags.

The response was over-whelming. The 28 students along with their teachers put together more than 100 bags, each containing 10 small toys and candy items. Every bag was decorated with a birthday sticker and ribbon. The birthday bags were then delivered to the St. Peter Food shelf for distribution, helping to put smiles on children’s faces.

Each class in the religious education program plan and participate in various service projects during the year.
