CCW leaders becoming pro-active in turning toward a culture of life
by Joan Wiering
As the bright, cold days of January approach and the stark reality that another year of Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays has roared on past us, bedecked in all its glorious frenzy. It leaves us in the Winter Doldrums.
Instead of giving in to this negative attitude, let us plan to turn our attention and energy toward a much-deserved observance in January. The Roe vs. Wade Court Decision of January 22, is something all Catholics should remember. More so today than ever before, we need to let the world know that we still reject "abortion on demand" the one court ruling that opened the door to infanticide, euthanasia, and embryonic stem cell research, to name a few. In light of the recent terrorists attacks on our home soil, where thousands of people perished in a matter of a few horrifying minutes, our nation has been forced to stop and reexamine our priorities. Prayer has become foremost; asking Gods blessing on our country. In all this I see a window of opportunity. God gave us this promise: "If my people would only pray, and seek my face, and turn away from all their wicked ways; then I will hear them, and move my hand, and freely then will I forgive and I will heal their land." We know that God is talking about all the evils that we have become complacent to, abortion being one of them. We need to reactivate our "soldiers of Christ" status and peacefully stand up and be counted among the ranks of the faithful. Every year in St. Paul, a pro-life rally takes place starting at the Cathedral for a mid-morning ecumenical prayer service.
Thousands of pro-life faithful people, who set aside this special day, gather together to pray and sing and peacefully stand up to be counted among the faithful who advocate for a culture of life.
Please consider setting aside this one day out of the year and hop on a bus to the State Capitol. Busses are being reserved throughout our diocese for this event. Contact your local Council of Catholic Women Reverence for Life Chairperson for the details in your area. I promise you that it will be a day of renewal and hope for bringing about a culture of life.
