Diocese of New Ulm to co-sponsor immigration conference

by Sr. Anna Marie Reha, SSND

The Diocese of New Ulm joins the Religious Congregations of the School Sisters of Notre Dame, Sisters of St. Francis of Rochester, Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls, MN and Dubuque, IA, the Benedictine Sisters of Crookston, MN, and the Presentation Sisters of Fargo, ND, in hosting an Immigration Conference.

The conference entitled: Together on a Journey Building Bridges will take place on May 12, 2007 at the Church of St. Aloysius, Olivia, MN.

The purpose of the conference is to: l help us come to understand more clearly the plight of the immigrant;

l educate about the Catholic social teaching on immigration and migration, and;

l create political will for positive comprehensive immigration reform.

As the public debate continues over whether to or how to fix our broken immigration system it is important that we grow in our own education, awareness, and call to response.

The day’s events will include an option of several sessions such as “Debunking Immigration Myths,” “Globalization and Immigration,” and “Comprehensive Immigration Reform,” as well as a panel of immigrants who will share their own story of immigration.

For further information contact Sr. Anna Marie Reha, director of Hispanic Ministry,  (507) 359-2966 or to pre-register contact Carmen Sonnek, OSF, 607 Walnut Avenue Olivia, MN 56277, phone: (320) 523-5816.  Everyone is encouraged to attend.
