Chrism Mass scheduled for April 6 in Wilno

Wilno, MN - The Chrism Mass - the Mass which the bishop concelebrates with his college of presbyters and at which he consecrates the holy chrism and blesses the other oils, will be held in the Diocese of New Ulm on Thursday, April 6 , 7:00 p.m. at St. John’s Cantius Church in Wilno.

During this Mass, Bishop Nienstedt will bless the oil of catechumens and the oil of the sick and consecrate the oil of chrism. The oils will be used in parishes throughout the year.

Another element that takes place at the Chrism Mass is the renewal of commitment to priestly service. Because of the intimate link between the oils in the sacramental life of the Church and the ministry of priests, an essential part of the celebration is the renewal of commitment to priestly service by the priests of the diocese. The ordained, in the presence of the assembly, ask for God’s help to remain faithful to their consecrated mission to serve the people of God.
