New Ulm, MN - On February 29, 12 catechumens and 59 candidates gathered with Bishop John C. Nienstedt and their sponsors, god-parents, mentors, and friends to celebrate the Rite of Election at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. This annual ritual, with the bishop presiding, is observed at the beginning of Lent and is celebrated with those who will be baptized and those who desire to come into full communion with the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil. Approximately 28 parishes from throughout the diocese were represented.
