Parish presenter speaks about importance of Sunday worship- faith takes practice

by Betty Roers, Marshall, MN

Faith takes practice was the focus of Judy Kullman’s presentation as she used humor, music, and old fashion common sense to enthusiastically promote Sunday as a day of worship and rest. Kullman is an author and also spokesperson and president /CEO for TGIS (Thank God It’s Sunday).

The evening, sponsored by Holy Redeemer, Marshall; St. Mary, Cottonwood, and St. Clotilde, Green Valley Councils of Catholic Women, was held at St. Clotilde Church, Green Valley on March 3, 2004 for grades 7-12 as well as adults.

Kullman’s theme centered on the importance of weekly worship, taking time each week to share in the gift of the Eucharist. As a young adult, Kullman related to the audience, she too questioned the need to go to church each week. "Faith takes practice", Kullman compared this to any member of an athletic team or band that wishes to succeed; they must practice. To be good at any activity requires practice and so does our faith.

The audience sang, laughed and listened (at times you could hear a pin drop). Many suggestions were given on ways to include the Lord in our daily lives. Kullman reminded people of past times when Sunday was a time to slow down, renew, take time for God and be refreshed for the week ahead. She encouraged people to revive that tradition.

A pearl of wisdom, by which the speaker lives is, "Love God, everything else falls into place."

The event ended as participants were encouraged to go out and carry the message, "Thank God It’s Sunday."

TGIS is a grass roots effort to promote weekly worship and is a part of Talk Etc. based in St Paul, MN.
