Groceries for the needy!

NUACS students choose food shelf as Lenten project

New Ulm, MN - This is the 16th year that the students at Holy Trinity Middle School of New Ulm Area Catholic Schools (NUACS) will contribute to the New Ulm Food Shelf as their Lenten service project.

Last year students donated over $2,490 worth of groceries to this cause. Throughout Lent, NUACS Holy Trinity Middle School students helped count the donated money, cut out coupons, and chart each homeroom's progress on the master board in the Holy Trinity Middle School hall. As the project comes to an end each homeroom selects student shoppers who then take a grocery list, calculator, coupons, and a fixed amount of money to local grocery stores and purchase items for the those in need. The student shoppers are accompanied by faculty members.

During Holy Week all of the Middle School's grades 5-8 students walk to the Food Shelf, to deliver the bags of food they purchased.

Throughout the past 15 years during which the project has been in operation, the total amount contributed by NUACS Holy Trinity Middle School students to the New Ulm Food Shelf is an astounding $34,158!
