Summer camp programs

New Ulm - With summer just around the corner the diocesan camps are being planned to train youth to work as leaders. The training teaches skills that youth can use in their own parishes. The theme of the junior high camp and senior high camp will be "Taking Leadership to Heart." The camp director for the junior high camp is Teresa Rousseau who is the Coordinator of Youth and Young Adult Ministry in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota. The directors for the senior high camp will be Ken Schaan and Christopher Ranweiler. Both are campus ministers from Hill Murray High School in St. Paul. The scripture reference that is used as a reference for these camps is from Luke 9:23, "If anyone wishes to come after me, he must take up his cross daily and follow me." This reference is quoted from Pope John Paul from this year’s message to youth. Although there are skill sessions throughout camp there are many fun activities to be involved in while the youth are there.

Region VIII Camp offers leadership training with teens from throughout Minnesota, North and South Dakota. This year it is being held at the college in Marshall. Teams of 2-5 youth and an adult leader learn leadership skills together as a team. For many parishes over the years this camp has been a great opportunity for good training. Many youth have made great friends through these camps while learning great skills to take home. For some parishes wanting to get some activities started in their parish with youth, this camp has made the difference. This camp also provides fun and entertainment from Karoake to the big dance and a band.
