The Saint John’s Bible featured in Smithsonian magazine

The Saint John’s Bible was featured in the December 2000 issue of Smithsonian magazine as the cover story. Smithsonian is the official publication of the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C. with a circulation of more than 2,000,000.

The article, The Saint John’s Bible: the World into Art, is the most extensive feature story written about the project since it was announced in March 1999. Writers for Smithsonian, Per Ola and Emily D’Aulaire, visited Saint John’s University in August and met with various people involved in the project. A week later the writers traveled with a photographer, Michael Freeman, hired by Smithsonian magazine, to Wales to interview and photograph Donald Jackson and his team working in the studio. The result: a stunning eleven page story with nine beautiful photographs.

Exposure in this cultural publication has created a new round of interest in The Saint John’s Bible. On April 20, 2001 Saint John’s University will host a Celebration of the First Volume of The Saint John’s Bible - the Gospels and the Acts of the Apostles. The celebration will take place in the Abbey Church in Collegeville.
