Annual DCCW Convention
by Lila Schmidt
The 43rd Annual Diocesan Council of Catholic Women Convention will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2001 at St. Marys Catholic School and Church in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota. Our theme is: It is I; do not be afraid. (John 6:20)
Father Brian Oestreich, Director of the diocesan Office of Vocations, joined by New Ulm diocesan deacons and seminarians, will challenge us in bringing about vocations to the priesthood. Their presentation is titled: Vocation Story: How You Can Foster Vocations. These men are our sons, grandsons, brothers, nephews, cousins and next-door neighbors. The Church Commission goal this year was to hold a holy hour for vocations. Heres an opportunity for you to hear first hand what you can do. Father Brian serves as diocesan Vocation Director and is Pastor in Leavenworth and sacramental minister in Comfrey and Sleepy Eye.
Jeff Cavins will address our assembly as "Daughters of God: Created in His Image". Jeff received his MA in Theology from Franciscan University of Steubenville with Catechetical Certification. He is currently producer and host of a live talk show "Life on the Rock" for young adults on EWTN. Jeff was presented the 1997 Envoy of the Year award for his work in evangelization. His television show, "Life on the Rock" won the Catholic Unity award for Best Catholic television show in 2000. After twelve years as a Protestant pastor, Jeff returned to the Catholic church under the guidance of Bishop Dudley, former bishop of Sioux Falls, SD. His new autobiography, My Life on the Rock, chronicles his amazing and often humorous story of his return.
The highlight of our day will be the celebration of the Eucharist. All women are invited to attend the diocesan convention. The day will conclude with Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and Benediction at the Divine Mercy Chaplet. Contact your parish CCW President for registration information.
