"Jubilee Women"

by Shirley Nowak

The 42nd Annual New Ulm Diocesan Council of Catholic Women Convention will be held at St. Eloi Catholic Church, Ghent, MN, on Saturday, April 29, 2000. The theme of the convention is "Jubilee Women". Much of the convention day will be educational dealing with spirituality, respect life issues, and mission service.

The day will begin with registration and continental breakfast from 7:30 a.m.-8:30 a.m. At the business meeting there will be the election of Vice President and Historian as well as the announcement of the recipient of the Council of Catholic Woman of the Year Award.

The keynote speaker, Father Mark Stang, will speak about "Give As You Have Been Given". Father Stang, a priest in the Diocese of St. Cloud and currently pastor of St. Mary of Mount Carmel, Long Prairie, had his ordination moved up to August 1990 because he was dying of cancer. Two days after his ordination, doctors at the Mayo Clinic confirmed that the malignant tumors had left his body. His story will truly demonstrate God’s unfailing love.

The two afternoon seminars are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.

Seminar 1:

Speaker, Jan Krocheski will be discussing respect life issues. Her topic is: "In Life and Death We Belong to the Lord." Jan is director of the Respect Life Program and the Division of Outreach for the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis.

Seminar 2

Speaker, Monsignor Greg Schaffer, will speak on the Mission in San Lucas Toliman, Guatemala.

The Silent Auction will be held again this year with the bidding closing at 2:30 p.m. The day will end with closing prayer and door prize drawings.

Shirley Nowak is from Silver Lake, MN, and is the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women President.
