Bishop Robert F. Morneau to speak on Salt, Leaven and Light: A Vatican II Spirituality Redwood Falls, MN - The First Annual Bishop Lucker Lecture will be held Thursday, March 20, 2003, 7:30 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center, Redwood Area School, Redwood Falls, MN. The evening's keynote will be the Most Reverend Robert F. Morneau, Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Green Bay, WI, speaking on Salt, Leaven and Light: A Vatican II Spirituality. Bishop Morneau is a popular speaker and has lectured extensively throughout the United States. He is a retreat leader and an avid reader. He is the author of numerous books on poetry, meditation, and the children's books, The Gift and A Tale from Paleface Creek. The Bishop Lucker Lecture fittingly bears the name of the late Bishop Raymond A. Lucker, second bishop of the Diocese of New Ulm (1975-2000) who was a pioneer and leader in the catechetical movement as well as a renowned lecturer of national prominence. In order to ensure that people in the Diocese continue to be enlightened and challenged by the leading teachers and practitioners of the Catholic faith, a special lecture fund (the Bishop Lucker Lecture Fund) was established on October 20, 2000 with an initial gift from Bishop Lucker. In conjunction with the Bishop Lucker Lecture, the Most Reverend John C. Nienstedt, Bishop of the Diocese of New Ulm, will present Diocesan Distinguished Service Awards to five individuals of the Diocese. This award, given in the form of an engraved medal and a framed citation signed by the Bishop, is presented to people who have given outstanding service to the Diocese of New Ulm over a period of years. In giving this award, the Diocese seeks to honor people from any walk of life: business, the professions, homemakers, parents, and volunteers in secular as well as religious life. The 2003 Diocesan Distinguished Service Award recipients are: Herb Brunner, a member of Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm; Lila Schmidt, a member of St. Eloi Parish in Ghent; Sr. Kathryn Schoolmeesters, SSND, Pastoral Administrator of St. John Parish in Hector; and Maria and Steve Zenk, members of St. Mary Parish in Willmar. The evening will conclude at 8:45 p.m. with a reception. Registrations continue to be taken for the Bishop Lucker Lecture. Ticket cost is $5. Due to limited seating, please contact the New Ulm Diocesan Pastoral Center to register, (507) 359-2966.
