Statement by Diocesan Administrator, Rev. John Gerald Berger
Bishop John C. Nienstedt's acceptance of New Ulm

We are delighted and grateful that the Holy Father has named Bishop John C. Nienstedt as the third Bishop of the Diocese of New Ulm. On behalf of my brother priests, pastoral leaders, and all the people of the diocese, I extend to Bishop Neinstedt a warm welcome to our community.

We have been praying for seven months that the new shepherd chosen for us would respond with a generous and joyful heart. And, Bishop Nienstedt indeed has said yes to this call.

Bishop Nienstedt brings to the diocese a strong background in moral theology with a special emphasis on medical ethics. He is a teacher, and has lived and studied in Rome for many years.

The pastoral leaders of the diocese are enthusiastically waiting to greet our new bishop and begin working together to serve the people of the diocese.

Our prayer for a new leader has been answered. We now pray that as a community we may grow together as worthy stewards of the Gospel and instruments of peace.
