Diocesan Ministries Appeal

By the time you read this article, you will already be aware that preparations are well underway for the second annual Diocesan Ministries Appeal.  As we said last year, this is an annual appeal since the wonderful works we began with the funds raised last November need to be continued on an annual basis.

And what a hugely successful DMA we had!  The Diocesan goal was $500,000 in new monies to begin new initiatives with another $100,000 to cut the DUF assessment from parishes, amounting to a reduction of seven and a half percent.  Monies over and above this target were returned to the respective parishes.  That amount totaled $900,000!  Thus, our parishes really benefited to the tune of $1 million!!!

The Diocese’s $500,000 has been used in the four categories which we identified in our DVD last November:

1)     Vocations

a) Seminarians – we continue to support our five seminarians in their discernment toward priestly ordination.

b) Permanent Deacons – we have received twelve candidates from around the Diocese into their first-year aspirancy program.  This is a first!

c) International Priests – we have received two fine priests from Nigeria who attended a six-week program in acculturation.  Another first!

2)     Religious Formation

a) The last two years of the Foundations and Together in Communion programs were financed by outside grants.  This year we will continue them with financing through the DMA.  Another first!

3)     Youth Ministry

a) We have been able to use the ACRE resource survey to gather data on how well grade and high school students are learning their faith.  This is done by measuring various grade levels against others.  Another first!

b) We continue to sponsor and enhance our Junior High Youth Festival and Senior High Youth Rally, the National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC) in Columbus, Ohio, and World Youth Day (WYD) in Sydney, Australia.

4)     Catholic Charities

a) Locations for Catholic Charities outreach with offices and counselors identified:

  §         Hutchinson

§         Marshall

§         New Ulm

§         Willmar

b) Services being provided by Catholic Charities outreach:

§         Adoption Services

§         Individual and Family Counseling

§         Marriage Preparation Counseling

§         Parish and Community Response

(Here we are especially aware of our National Guard soldiers who have just returned from Iraq and may be in need of individual or family counseling as they make their transition back to a normal routine.)

§         Pregnancy Counseling

§         Grief Services

§         Immigration and Legalization       Services
   

I hope you are as proud as I am with what we have accomplished with the DMA last year.  But now that these activities have begun, they need to be continued . . . and that is where the 2007 DMA comes into play.

Falta Mucho por Recorrer

Cuando lean este artículo, ustedes probablemente ya estén informados sobre los preparativos que se están llevando acabo para la segunda Campaña para los Ministerios Diocesanos. Como dijimos el año pasado, la campaña se realizará anualmente para cubrir con los gastos de los proyectos ya empezados.

¡La Campaña para los Ministerios Diocesanos fue todo un éxito! La meta diocesana fue de $500,000 para las nuevas iniciativas diocesanas y $100,000 para reducir el DUF (contribución por parte de las parroquias a la diócesis) de un 7.5 %. El dinero restante regresó a las parroquias respectivamente. ¡El total fue de $900,000! ¡Por consiguiente, nuestras parroquias se han beneficiado con aproximadamente $1 millón!!!

Los $500,000 que se recaudo a través de la Campaña se utilizo en las cuatro categorías siguientes, la cual se explicó en nuestro DVD en Noviembre del año pasado:

    1) Vocaciones

a) Seminaristas – Continuamos apoyando a nuestros cinco seminaristas en su discernimiento hacia la ordenación sacerdotal.

 

b) Diácono Permanente - Doce candidatos de nuestra diócesis fueron admitidos para empezar con su primer año de Aspirantado.

c) Sacerdotes del Exterior – Dos buenos sacerdotes de Nigeria fueron admitidos a nuestra diócesis. Ellos han asistido al programa de aculturación por seis semanas.

    2) Formación Religiosa

a) Durante los dos últimos años programas como Foundations/Fundaciones y Together in Communion/Juntos en Comunión fueron financiados por donaciones externas. Este año esos programas serán financiados a través de nuestra Campaña Diocesana.

    3) Ministerio para Jóvenes

a) Hemos tenido la oportunidad de usar el recurso del Assessment of Catechesis Religious Education (ACRE) para reunir información y saber como aprenden su fe los estudiantes de primaria y secundaria. Esto se hace midiendo los diferentes niveles de grado contra otros.

 

b) Continuamos patrocinando y mejorando nuestro Junior High Youth Festival y el Senior High Youth Rally, la Conferencia Nacional Católica para Jóvenes (NCYC siglas en ingles) en Columbus, Ohio y el Día Mundial para jóvenes (WYD siglas en Ingles) en Sydney, Australia.

 
   4) Caridades Católicas

a) Lugares donde se ofrece servicios de Caridades Católicas y consejeros:

Hutchinson; Marshall; New Ulm; Willmar

b) Las Caridades Católicas ofrecerán los siguientes servicios: 

- Servicios de Adopción

- Asesoramiento familiar e individual

- Asesoramiento de preparación para el matrimonio
- Extendiendo la mano con la Iglesia y lacomunidad

(Aqui somos consientes de nuestros soldados de la Guardia Nacional. Cuando ellos regresan de Irak quizás vayan a necesitar asesoramiento familiar o individual mientras vuelven a su rutina diaria).

- Asesoramiento de Embarazo

- Servicios de apoyo por la perdida de un ser querido o que tengan a un ser querido enfermo.

- Servicios de Inmigración y legalización.

Espero que ustedes estén tan orgullosos como yo con los logros de la última Campaña. Pero ahora que estas actividades ya empezaron, deben continuar…esa es la razón de nuestra Campaña para los Ministerios Diocesanos 2007.

¡Exhorto a que se unan conmigo a este equipo ganador! Espero que puedan hacer una promesa de ayudar económicamente a nuestra campaña, sean lo más generosos que puedan. ¡Se que Dios los bendecirá respectivamente!
